On death row, scheduled to be killed on FEB 10. No more reprieves for this boy.

Royal, about 15 months old, is a neutered male fawn Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He ended up at the WLA Shelter on Nov. 2nd as a stray.  Shortly after, a stranger walked up to his kennel door and stuck his arm in so Royal growled and barked at him -- he didn't bite, but he certainly told the man he didn't appreciate his gesture (like people, dogs don't like everyone they meet).  Royal was taken to Isolation and that's where he has lived for almost his entire stay at the shelter.

Shelter staff take Royal out when they can and he got out to run and play with a female PB not too long ago and they had a great time!

He is STRONG, loves to play, corrects easily (from both human and dog), and sits on command. No reported aggression toward male or female staff at the shelter.

Urgent adorable seniors at SLA need a friend today!

Sweet seniors in danger at SLA

Meet Jake (14 yrs Lab), Ginger (16 yrs GSD), and Tito (10 yrs Chi). You might not have heard of them before, they may not be famous, but they're a package of three very much worth saving. These unlucky dogs had a mother once. She was a vet tech who saved every animal dumped at the vet. Her family had 16 pets because of her. This kind woman died - leaving a grieving husband and son behind. Their home was foreclosed. And these two men worked hard to find homes for 16 pets. They found homes for 13 of them. But yesterday, hours before they took the rest of their things from the house they once loved, they dropped Tito, Ginger, and Jake off at SLA Shelter. And they wept.

I know it's a lot to ask for three dogs. I know it's a lot to ask for three seniors. I know it's a lot to hope that three black seniors will come out alive. But faith is all we have. If ANYONE can give these three best friends who cried and barked as they were separated into different kennels (SLA is trying to put them together if possible) a chance at a noble ending, an opportunity to live out their golden time as they should - warm, safe, loved - PLEASE RUN TO SLA TO SAVE THEM. They do not have much time left: owner surrendered, black, and old.

They are all neutered and spayed, up to date on shots, healthy, and get along with cats and dogs very well (they lived with 13 others!) In the interest of full disclosure, please note Tito, the Chi is a fear snapper does need someone to go slow with him. Thank you for caring, thank you for networking, thank you for trying to help these three worthy lives. They're good dogs - nothing is wrong with them. Just their luck.

URGENT HELP NEEDED TO SAVE THE SANCTUARY: For the past 16 months Shadow’s Fund has worked without pause to create and sustain the Sheltering Oak Sanctuary.We’ve dug trenches and built fences. We’ve created a new home for rescued animals and have restored the land that is home to wild animals. We’ve gently welcomed dogs – bruised and broken – into the safety and love of the sanctuary, and we’ve joyfully (and sometimes tearfully) wished them well as they have moved on to their forever homes. We have marveled at the selfless volunteers that give their time and their hearts to help a dog heal, and how the dogs in turn have helped people heal. From disabled adults to at risk youth, from those in need of a community to connect with to those required to perform community service, the sanctuary has been a place of hope and healing for people too.

This incredible place serves as a safety net to the most vulnerable shelter dogs – the lost and lonely grey muzzled seniors and the feared and misunderstood pit bulls. Here they all get love and a 2nd chance.

Today, we are at a major turning point. One which will determine whether this seed we planted will grow and flourish, or wither and die. The land we are leasing is for sale and we have very little time to raise the down payment. We’ve come a long way, but we have a long way to go.  What would you give to see a sanctuary grow?

The sanctuary has been a miracle for so many dogs out of time and out of hope. Now the sanctuary needs a miracle. We have one shot to make this happen and that shot is now.  Please make a contribution today.

Andy A0866359, lovely senior Gentle & Sweet!

He was turned into the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter on Dec. 22, 2011. .  Andy is a 9 yr. old, neutered,  German Shepherd mix who weighs 35 lbs.  Seniors have a particularly hard time at the shelter and finding a home.

 Poor Andy!

Andy is a sweet, gentle, easy going dog who, once out of his run, becomes very personable and friendly.  He really likes people.  He is housebroken and his loving spirit is hoping that someone will take him away from all of this sadness.  His previous “owner” said that he was the best dog ever, she just couldn’t afford keeping him any longer.  

The shelter scares Andy and that is why he hides out in the back of his run.  This is not the life that he wants or that he remembers. He remembers having a person. He remembers having a warm bed and being best friends with a human who promised to take care of him forever.  That is what we want for Andy.

Please help Andy!  He needs a home before it is too late.  Please adopt this wonderful boy.

Little Senior Terrier Candy A1259183 is YOUNG at heart!

Why isn't this girl being scooped up? How sad that this lovely lady can't find someplace to rest her weary head. Don't you need a sweet senior to warm up your chilly winter nights??

My name is Candy and I am a spayed mixed terrier and about as cute as can be, if I do say so myself. A lady never likes to divulge her age but I will tell you one thing, I am probably not 13 yrs. old like they say I am. I have the spirit and energy of a pup!

The sad part of my story is that I was picked up as evidence in a humane investigation. My life has not been very happy but I still have a great attitude. I would love any family that decided to give an "old girl" like me a chance for a happy life.

When I was brought to the shelter on Oct. 22, 2011 I only weighed 13 lbs. and was very emaciated. The shelter fed me good food and now I weigh 20 lbs. I'm actually getting a little chunky which no girl likes to admit but I haven't had much exercise here at the shelter.

A couple of the volunteers recently gave me a bath and boy, did I ever love that. I kept kissing the person who was holding me because I was so happy.

I am also a happy girl when I get to go into the play yard to run and sniff around. I am housebroken so the yard is nice for that too.

Hey, I also know how to sit on command, plus I have a very soft mouth when I take treats.

It's true that older dogs like me have a hard time finding a home, but I hope people can see what a cool dog I am. I promise that I would be very loving and sweet. I would even sit in your lap and watch T.V. with you if that would make you happy. PLEASE ADOPT ME, you won't be sorry!
