Tyson A1304301 is a favorite at WLA, please give him a chance!

Tyson (ID#A1304301) is a beautiful 10 yr. old shepherd mix surrendered by his owner because of "allergies" on April 28. He is at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. Tyson is a smart boy, good with people. He sits, goes down and does a high five with the best of them. With other dogs he is a little cautious. He is not aggressive but would probably be best either as an only dog or with a real mellow dog. Tyson is running out of time!. It breaks my heart when I pass his run and see him staring out as if looking for his person. He does the same thing in the yard. He misses having a family. Please help network Tyson before it's too late.

Fantastic Finegan! ID #A1282754 @ the WLA Shelter!

Finegan is a very special little dog!  He is an 8 yr. old black and white, neutered terrier mix who was found as a stray wandering the streets of West Los Angeles.  On Feb. 1, 2012 he was brought to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.
Many dogs are found in circumstances like Finegan's, so what makes him so special?  To begin with he is about as cute as they come both before and after his bath as you can see in the photographs.  Finegan is a happy little guy who wags his tail a lot . He is also very calm and well mannered.  What then is it that makes Finegan so special?  Well, it turns out that Finegan is "toothless"!!.
Why is he toothless you ask?  We don't have an answer and Finegan can’t tell us.  The good news is that it doesn't seem to bother him.  He takes treats with the best of them and as long as his food is soft he will have no problems.  His weight appears to be normal for a dog his size.  What a story he would tell if only he could talk.
Adopting an 8 yr. old toothless terrier may not be at the top of your list when you come to the animal shelter but one look at Finegan and your heart will melt.  His sweetness and gentleness shine through and worrying about him biting someone will never be an issue. :-)
He is a precious little dog who needs someone to love him. Don't let the shelter be his last home!

Urgent adorable seniors at SLA need a friend today!

Sweet seniors in danger at SLA
Meet Jake (14 yrs Lab), Ginger (16 yrs GSD), and Tito (10 yrs Chi). You might not have heard of them before, they may not be famous, but they're a package of three very much worth saving. These unlucky dogs had a mother once. She was a vet tech who saved every animal dumped at the vet. Her family had 16 pets because of her. This kind woman died - leaving a grieving husband and son behind. Their home was foreclosed. And these two men worked hard to find homes for 16 pets. They found homes for 13 of them. But yesterday, hours before they took the rest of their things from the house they once loved, they dropped Tito, Ginger, and Jake off at SLA Shelter. And they wept.

I know it's a lot to ask for three dogs. I know it's a lot to ask for three seniors. I know it's a lot to hope that three black seniors will come out alive. But faith is all we have. If ANYONE can give these three best friends who cried and barked as they were separated into different kennels (SLA is trying to put them together if possible) a chance at a noble ending, an opportunity to live out their golden time as they should - warm, safe, loved - PLEASE RUN TO SLA TO SAVE THEM. They do not have much time left: owner surrendered, black, and old.

They are all neutered and spayed, up to date on shots, healthy, and get along with cats and dogs very well (they lived with 13 others!) In the interest of full disclosure, please note Tito, the Chi is a fear snapper does need someone to go slow with him. Thank you for caring, thank you for networking, thank you for trying to help these three worthy lives. They're good dogs - nothing is wrong with them. Just their luck.

PLEASE HELP:

Little Senior Terrier Candy A1259183 is YOUNG at heart!

Why isn't this girl being scooped up? How sad that this lovely lady can't find someplace to rest her weary head. Don't you need a sweet senior to warm up your chilly winter nights??

SWEET AS "CANDY"
ID#A1259183
My name is Candy and I am a spayed mixed terrier and about as cute as can be, if I do say so myself. A lady never likes to divulge her age but I will tell you one thing, I am probably not 13 yrs. old like they say I am. I have the spirit and energy of a pup!
The sad part of my story is that I was picked up as evidence in a humane investigation. My life has not been very happy but I still have a great attitude. I would love any family that decided to give an "old girl" like me a chance for a happy life.
When I was brought to the shelter on Oct. 22, 2011 I only weighed 13 lbs. and was very emaciated. The shelter fed me good food and now I weigh 20 lbs. I'm actually getting a little chunky which no girl likes to admit but I haven't had much exercise here at the shelter.
A couple of the volunteers recently gave me a bath and boy, did I ever love that. I kept kissing the person who was holding me because I was so happy.
I am also a happy girl when I get to go into the play yard to run and sniff around. I am housebroken so the yard is nice for that too.
Hey, I also know how to sit on command, plus I have a very soft mouth when I take treats.
It's true that older dogs like me have a hard time finding a home, but I hope people can see what a cool dog I am. I promise that I would be very loving and sweet. I would even sit in your lap and watch T.V. with you if that would make you happy. PLEASE ADOPT ME, you won't be sorry!

Sweet Sui A0921322 wonders why...

Sui ID#A0921322

There's a sadness in Sui's brown eyes as she gazes at you through the bars of her run.  Sui is a 9 yr. old black brindle and white spayed Pit Bull Terrier.
Sui remembers when she was at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter 3 years ago. She was adopted by a family and it was everyone's hope that this would be the forever home that she longed for. Unfortunately for Sui it did not turn out that way. She was returned to the shelter by her owners on August 4, 2011.  No reason was given. She didn't do anything wrong. Perhaps they just didn't want an older dog.  Sadly this happens much too often!
Sui is a sweet, gentle dog who walks well on leash.  She delights in playing in the plastic swimming pool that is set up in the yard.  She walks in it, sits in it and lies down in it.  It brings a smile to everyone's face as they watch her run around the yard with the energy of a young dog and then take a flying leap into the pool. The look of sheer joy on her face is hard to miss.
Sui thought that she had her forever home but life dealt her a nasty blow and so here she is back at the shelter again, 3 yrs. older and probably 10 lbs. heavier. She's a good dog.  She was always a good dog.  She didn't do anything wrong.  She needs the love and commitment from a special person who will see what a truly special dog she is.
Please help Sui.  She needs a forever home for the remaining years of her life. She's a happy dog who loves life and will bring some lucky person great joy. -- Mirja Bishop

Lux-A1165613 -Desperately needs a RESCUE! Please help!

She is NOT a biter... So far no one has come forward for this unlucky little girl
Here is exactly what happened. Lux was always happy and well behaved on her walks. One day, because she was pulling on the leash, the volunteer did the training technique of quickly turning her around (360 degree) in the opposite direction.

There was a jogger ridiculously too close and practically on top of them and BEHIND them, when they turned the jogger was running directly at Lux and right on top of her! Lux was startled and she SNAPPED at the jogger, did not bite her. They stopped and Lux sat quietly and patiently while the jogger examined herself. The jogger's clothes were a very thin material and there was a SCRATCH...no broken skin. Everything was fine and the jogger continued jogging BUT now Lux has a "bite record"

She has never bitten before or since. The volunteers love her but the staff I hear is not that crazy about her, because when she first came in she hid and cringed in the back of the cage (she still does). Then she developed the LEARNED behavior from the other dogs in the kennel of running up to the front of the cage and barking at them.

With the volunteers that she knows she runs up and wags her tail happily and hopes it's time for a walk...BUT Lux will NEVER go for another walk and she will not get out alive, because now she has a "bite" history, unless a Rescue takes her...all because of the stupidity of the jogger, which Lux will have to pay for with her young life.

LOOK AT THAT HAPPY SWEET FACE. Of course she needs socialization, but the volunteer told us that she is just fine once she is outside of the Shelter...a place that she may never live to see.

This dog is RESCUE ONLY and she needs help desperately. PLEASE HELP by circulating this information!

Charlotte: Beagle A1187273 Such a cutie pie!

Charlotte is a beautiful, mellow, and friendly Beagle girl who is good with other dogs -- she shares her kennel with a Lab-Pit mix named Madonna! She needs to loose a few lbs but hey, so many of us could use a walking buddy to get in better shape too! She is spayed, healthy, loving and so lovable. Charlotte was dumped at the shelter because her former "owner" was moving. She is anywhere from 7 to 9 years old, and she's tender and kindhearted, with soulful eyes as if she was a Tennessee Williams character in a former life! Please see her video attached here too...she would make a cute, cuddly, and fun best friend to share your home with.

She is currently at the West LA Animal Shelter waiting for you to get her outta there!

Peewee A1123829 has made it this far, don't let him down now!

A1123829 - Pewee, 7 year old, neutered, Chiweenie (Chihuahua/ Dachshund)

Pewee was surrendered to the shelter by his owner because they were moving!! Poor Pewee has been at the shelter since June 14th 2010!!!! Peewee has a deformed nose which may have played a role in his not finding a home by now. :(

All this little man wants for the Holidays is a home to call his own! His demands are minimal... Just a comfy bed, good food and some love. He doesnt require a four legged friend to be... happy so although he does get along with other dogs, he would be quite happy being the only one getting attention.

As you can see from the pictures, Pewee is very tolerant of getting dressed up and posing for his Holiday pics. There is one thing however that Pewee is not so tolerant of... He hates to be picked up!

Please help Pewee find a home for the Holidays!!!

Coco, the Sassy Rottie A0721226: Meet her at Best Friends This weekend!!!

I'm koo koo for Coco! ID #A0721226
(story by Mirja Bishop)

I love life!! I am a happy female Rottweiler around 5 yrs. of age who is drop dead gorgeous to look at if I do say so myself. I have been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since July 13, 2010 which is much too long for a cutie like me. I wag my beautiful tail all the time so that people will notice me and see how precious I am.

I have a favorite person at the shelter who spends a lot of time with me. She really loves me and has taught me so much. She introduced me to some other dogs both male and female, big and small and Hey I did just fine thank you very much!!! I even got to go into the cat room and the first time I wasn't too sure about them so I barked but my person told me "No" and I listened to her. The next time I just ignored them. They're only cats after all!!!

I never really learned how to play which makes me sad but I know that I can learn. My lady friend hops around and makes funny noises which I think is so cute. She is so happy when I jump around a little. I know that someday I will have a yard and a special person and then I will play with the best of them. I do have good manners and know sit, lay down and I will even shakes paws with you. I am also housebroken which is something that I am very proud of.

Please don't get all kissy with me right away. Let me sort of check you our first because I need to learn how to trust again and I know that I will if given a chance.

I want my own mommy and daddy so very much. I want a soft, warm bed and a loving pat on the back. I want a special person to love me and give me a "forever home". Please get me out of the cage that I live in now. I am so afraid that one day soon may be my last day. I don't want to die! I want a "forever home". Please help me! Please! I will give you my paw if you do and I will love you forever!!

Come meet Coco at Best Friends Super Adoption event at La Brea Tar Pits on Sunday, Nov.7th!

URGENT: Senior dog Franny at WLA needs a RESCUE today! ID# A1121217

Frannie ID# A1121217
$350 RAiSED SO FAR.....Rescue Only and not much time....
I LOVE LIFE!!! I love to play catch and chase the water!!
I'm 8 but I
still feel like a puppy....and the ladies at the shelter used to make me feel so special...

Franny is a beautiful 8 yr. old spayed female tan and white Labrador Retriever mix. She was found as a stray and has been at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter since June 5, 2010. Franny is a happy dog with the spirit of a puppy. She has a delightful personality and a very gentle temperament. Her tail wags constantly but especially when she is in the yard running or playing ball. She plays a mean game of catch and rarely misses and trying to catch water coming out of a hose is great fun for Franny. She is very easy to walk on leash and knows "sit". Sadly Franny is "rescue only" at this time because of an unfortunate incident where a child managed to stick his finger in her run and Franny bit him. Franny now has to pay the price for a parent's lack of supervision of their child. Franny is a lovely, sweet older dog who deserves to spend the last years of her life in the comfort of a home where she is loved and where someone will play ball with her. Please help Franny find her home.... She is too stressed at the shelter to really know how she is with other dogs so it's best that she is an only dog until a proper assessment can be done.

Franny is YOUNG at HEART- A1121217 at WLA

FRANNY - ID#A1121217

"I'll play a game of catch with you if you like" would probably be the first words out of Franny's mouth if she could talk. The greatest joy in the life of this dog is to play catch. She has an amazing ability to catch a ball thrown to her from just about any distance. She does a good job of returning the ball and then waits patiently for the ball to be thrown again and again and again. Rarely does she miss!

Franny is a beautiful tan and white Labrador Retriever mix who is so much prettier than portrayed in this photo. She was found as a stray on June 5, 2010 and is currently housed at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter. Franny is described as an eight year old spayed female but may actually be a little older than that. The coloring on her muzzle is a little deceiving and perhaps the whiteness of it gives her an older look but it may also be part of her original color. In spirit this dog is young at heart and raring to go.

Franny appears to be in excellent physical condition. She has an amazing personality with a very gentle temperament and a happy, tail wagging disposition. She knows some commands such as "sit". She is very easy to walk on leash and does not appear to be dog reactive . In the play yard she loves to run around the yard with the volunteer never pulling, never straining at her leash and clearly enjoying the human contact that she has with the shelter staff and volunteers.

Franny is a delightful dog who because of her age may have more difficulty finding that forever home for the last years of her life. She would make a fantastic companion for just about anybody. She has obviously been part of a family that loved her because she is so comfortable and happy around people. Her wish now is that someone will look beyond the graying muzzle and see the inner beauty and love that she has to offer. She is a happy dog with a great joy for life besides she plays a mean game of catch!!!

Play with Misty for me! Urgent in Pasadena ID#A267407

MISTY - ID#A267407

Spayed female, tan and black German Shepherd Dog.

About 5 years old.

At the shelter since Jul 06, 2010.

Someone at the Pasadena Shelter asked for assistance on this sweet girl who really got a raw deal! This situation is URGENT!

This is what the email said:

We are desperately looking for a rescue (who uses fosters) to take in this sweet girl – she has one potential adopter looking at her at Pasadena Humane tomorrow. I have gotten to know her, yesterday I took her out to the park for 45 min. and she was great. She knows sit, down, stay, takes food and treats gently, walks well on a leash. We cat-tested her and she was very appropriate, non-reactive and just not that interested in the cat.

Space is so tight right now. She is an owner turn-in, they were going to take her to one of our training classes and then decided they didn’t want to do the work. She seems very sweet. The owner did say she guards the property (she is part shepherd) and they were worried she was going to attack some of their friends who just walked up the driveway one day so they decided to get rid of her based on that. As you know, that’s a bit of a death sentence for a dog.

She could be a great dog for someone who wants a good watch dog! She seems like a winner to me. Please contact the Pasadena Shelter about her right away!!!

CHELSEA - A1105692 at WLA - She's begging for a break

Chelsea is a very sweet girl. She's big and brawny, but underneath she is a sweet gal who just wants to relax with her favorite friends. Chelsea is large but not difficult to handle. She just assume be with YOU and hang out.

Chelsea lived with her family her whole life, but for some reason they didn't or couldn't keep her, we don't know why. She was very distraught when she first arrived at the shelter. It was sad to hear her howl, she sounded so sad and lonely. Luckily, the wonderful WLA volunteers came to the rescue and made Chelsea's time at the shelter bearable. She's doing pretty well, but her time is running out.

Not sure how Chelsea does with other dogs, but she's not reactive to them. I think she would do well in a variety of situations with young or older folks. She's pretty chill.

Poor Chelsea is in BIG trouble at the shelter, she's just been there too long. She's a little older and has some mammary tumors that are operable. Her time is running out and I hate to think of it. She's too nice a girl...

Please share, network and let's find her a home!
