Two Little guys who need a hand.

Rocky adopted at the SM event at Clover park!!! Now he's called Mongoose!!! Good luck Mongoose!!!
Rocky A1006426: 1 year old Chi mix

This guy is crazy cute and sweet as sugar. Somehow he was listed as aggressive for several weeks and relegated to the back room of the shelter. Now we've discovered he's been misunderstood. His previous home said he didn't like kids. We don't know the whole story though. I think as he is so young and impressionable that he may be okay with kids if supervised. I had so much fun with this little cutie, playing in the yard and snuggling up. Rocky has a gorgeous coat and is a perfect little size for an apartment.
Come meet this wonderful dog and give him a chance to prove how nice he is!

Bo Bo A1034229 Spaniel mix Still waiting!!!!
This little boy is so scared and sad that the shelter has green listed him because he is having such a hard time at the shelter. He's lost weight and is just not doing well at all. Volunteers who have seen this problem before have been spending time with him in his run and coaxing him out of his shell. We don't know much about this little cutie, but we do know he needs out of the shelter as soon as possible!!!!

Gorgeous Guiness at West Valley Shelter has been ADOPTED!

Adopted!!

Thanks to all for saving this GEM of a DOG!!!

HIS TIME IS VERY LIMITED--ONLY UNTIL 7/29 BEFORE HE IS PUT DOWN.

We have some different ways to approach saving this lover boy:

1. A Rescue can take him (and be lucky to have him)
2. If we have a foster we have a rescue.
3. If someone who is fostering a small dog can foster Guiness instead, Marda is able to foster a small dog.
4. If funds can be collected/pledged to board Guiness he can be rescued.

Either contact me directly thru this blog: lola4dogs@gmail.com or

OR CALL THE WEST VALLEY SHELTER TO RESCUE!!213/485-8405
Guiness ID# A1018021

Two dogs who are wonderful and need out of WLA!

Goliath, Greater Swiss Mt Dog mix, 75 lbs., 2.5 years old

Very sweet dog who LOVES to play with other dogs. He's a big boy so best with kids over 10 years old. He loves to play fetch and will drop the ball at your feet! He knows basic obedience as well and is great on the leash. He's an awesome guy just waiting for a wonderful home. Look at that sweet smile. Please come meet him NOW!

Bamboo, Pitt Bull, 4 years old., Med/Lg

What a face! Such a good boy. He thinks he's a lap dog!! Bamboo just loves people. He would be fine with another dog if properly introduced (and the other dog is friendly). He's NOT a dog park dog though... But he is easy on the leash! Really a nice fellow and so darn cute! The volunteers just love him!!

This just in from a fellow volunteer...

GUINESS A1018021 RED LISTED
7 yr. old German Shepherd/Chow mix
Currently at the West Valley Shelter

Guiness has come a long way since a bit of a rocky start at the WLA shelter. He's very people friendly and responsive. Will run right along side of the volunteers without a leash, comes when called, and sits on command. Save your treats for dogs who will only respond to them; this sweetie should carry a sign saying "Will work for praise and petting!"

Though he is reactive when walking between the rows of barking dogs (like a lot of dogs), he has been tested with individual dogs and only displayed normal curiosity--no aggression.

Unfortunately, he recently got transferred to the West Valley Shelter, where he is now red listed, and his time is limited. One of our volunteers will offer some training/handling guidance for him if desired.

UPDATE: He is housed with another dog and gets along fine. Markedly decreased reactivity as I walked him past a few runs. He not only ran with me, but after I tired him out, also walked quietly by my side w/o a leash. Chased a ball, which I'd not seem him do at WLA--still needs work on the "drop it" part ;). Appreciate it if you could update the info on your blog about him. Thanks.

The remaining Bemis evidence dogs to be released!

Pls help the remaining four Bemis dogs still living at the shelter find forever homes now! Pls crosspost and network these dogs to any friends and family you know that could provide a loving, responsible home.

These dogs have been living at the shelter well over THREE YEARS now and we anticipate that these dogs will be released by the courts soon. They have been held at the shelter because they are involved in a court case involving animal abuse and neglect. They did nothing wrong other than having the misfortune of being hoarded by a woman who has been prosecuted for animal abuse, neglect & cruelty charges.

Samantha – Female Pure breed Akita, about 5 yrs. Old. Samantha is a friendly, easy going gal. She loves people and is just starved for affection. This picture does not show her well. In person, she truly is a very beautiful dog. She is looking for a loving, responsible forever family that will care for her.

Ollie – Male Kelpie mix, about 4 yrs old. Ollie is very shy, quiet and scared. Living at the shelter has been very hard for him. Ollie does have a wonderful foster family that will take him in as soon as he is released from the shelter. Ollie is looking for his forever home.

Joey – Male pit mix, about 5 yrs old. Joey. Joey is a good ol’ boy and loves people. Being in the kennel for so long makes him depressed and very sad. He enjoys being with people and being in the outdoors. Joey is looking for his forever family.

Lilly – Female Pit Mix, About 5 yrs old. Lilly is very sweet, affectionate and loves people. She adores anyone who will give her attention and she is just starved for affection. Lilly needs a forever home as soon as possible.

The Shelter Chronicles: Little dogs need help too.

Piper A1030756 2 years Terrier mix

What a sweet little kid! She recently had a large litter of 8 puppies at the shelter. She came in as a stray. Poor girl. She had her pups who are all happy and healthy, but she is now a free agent and can be adopted herself. Piper's fur got a little thinned out for some reason, maybe stress or hormones, but we are pretty certain that it will fill in nicely. Piper is a bubbly dog with a great personality. She's got lots of energy. However, she's really happy to sit on your lap as much as possible. She's a small girl so it's not a problem... This is a GREAT family dog. She is really special. Easy and adorable as can be. Come see what I mean.

Armani A1022855 1 year old Chihuahua mix
ARMANI RESCUED!!!

Armani has a sad story. This boy is RED LISTED since last week!!! No way you say? Well it's true! And let me tell you, he sure doesn't deserve it!
Armani came in as a stray back in April. He didn't get a lot of time before he was labeled as being not friendly (that dreaded yellow mark). I was also told that he was not dog friendly. Naturally the first thing I wanted to see when I took him out was how unfriendly was he? Big surprise, he was perfectly sweet and friendly. Armani isn't crazy about big dogs but he's probably never met one. As for dogs his size, he's cool with them as long as they are friendly. But even when they are not interested in him, he doesn't push too hard. So that was one rumor dispelled. This guy doesn't know much and my guess he lived a pretty sheltered life seeing that new things are a little over whelming to him. That said, we had him at an adoption event at the farmers market and he did great. He was a little over stimulated by the end but he held it together. This is not a hard dog. In fact he's a really sweet guy who is highly adoptable. I would suggest him for a family with older kids but not toddlers. Older folks, singles and everyone in between would be great for him. He's really a peach!
He's got less than a week people...

The Shelter Chronicles: Feebe needs a NEW HOME!

Check out Feebe the beautiful, former SLA Shelter dog who now needs to find a permanent loving home...

Feebe is definitely one of a kind! This 5 year old, Belgian Malinois-German Shepherd mix is a stunning beauty with a soft tummy (she loves belly rubs!) and unparalleled devotion. Feebe's ideal day would go something like this: yummy breakfast, a 20 minute walk, a good Bully stick while sitting at your feet, and then giving you lots of tender kisses. She can be the silliest klutz in the world (think Kramer's entrance on Seinfeld!) and yet runs in a backyard with the grace of an athlete. Feebe is smart and bright, loves to work, and though full of energy at times, prefers to be mellow and cuddle with someone more than anything else.

Feebe would do best in a single dog household or with a confident male dog. She is also great with kids, though not with cats. She has had a really tough past, but has come such a long way due to lots of training and structure. She responds well to guidance- she literally grins from ear to ear when she knows she is doing right by you! She craves praise and is such a good girl who knows all the basic commands perfectly.

Feebe is spayed, up to date on all her shots, has had a full blood panel and is a healthy girl. She has been living in a foster home for over a year now with a volunteer who could not let her perish at the shelter and took her on her very last day. But this home has another female dog and rotating fosters which has not worked out for Feebe. It's time for Feebe to find a forever home and live happily ever after with a family of her own that can give her what she needs! She deserves it and will be the most loyal, loving, sweet companion in return. You could not ask for a better best friend than Feebe.

Please contact lola4dogs@gmail.com for more info on Feebe!
