The Shelter Chronicles:HELP! They need somebody!!!

Wow, all I can say is what a depressing time this is if you are a dog at the shelter. It used to be that the dogs at WLA were pretty much safe from deaths door as long as they had a good disposition, were healthy and adoptable. Those days are over...

Now that the LAAS has decided that all city shelters will be treated the same, regardless of how many animals they have or what the intake/adoption ratio is at that particular location, death is a reality for ALL of our animals based on time. West LA dogs no longer have the time factor on their side.

That said, have a look at the "cheerful" (not) New Hope alerts being sent out. Now if these don't make you run right out and adopt these dogs, I don't know what will...

--------------------------------------------------------------
Piccachu and Adonis are both 5 years old and both sterilized.

They were surrendered by their owner because they were moving. They are very shy in the kennel and co dependent on each other but once they are out in the yard they love to run and play. Very sweet dogs that love affection.

Piccachu and Adonis are RED LISTED and needs to be adopted by Monday 22nd June 2009.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Tyson is a 9 month old, neutered, American Staff.

Tyson was surrendered by his owner because of a skin condition that he was on medication for. They were growing frustrated and no longer wanted to deal with it. Tyson's skin is now better after continuing treatment here at the shelter.

Tyson did have a kennel mate, a female American Staff that has since been adopted. Since then he has not accepted any other kennel mate. Tyson has also shown possible male aggression after he tried to bite a potential adopter. (this statement is completely false, he was playing and was overly excited, he has not shown aggression) He is however OK with females.

Tosca is a 1 1/2 year old, spayed, Lab/ Shepherd Mix that came to the shelter as a stray on March 18th 2009.

Tosca knows how to sit, down, play dead. She is very trainable and retrieves well. Obedience is awesome but needs to work on relaxing around other dogs.

Tosca is RED LISTED and needs to be adopted by Monday 22nd June 2009.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Oliver is a 13 month old, male, Labrador Mix.

Oliver is very attentive and listens well to verbal commands. He is very friendly with people but does take some time to warm up to strangers, especially men.(This dog is really great and will blossom if given the chance!)

Oliver is RED LISTED and needs to be adopted by Monday 22nd June 2009.

Lucky is a 6 year old, male, Chow Chow.

Lucky was given to his owners about a year ago. They could no longer care for him and did not have time for him anymore. According to them Lucky was kept indoors and is not good with other dogs. The volunteers take him out here at the shelter and say that he is a really sweet dog. He is distracted by other dogs but is food motivated and knows basic commands.
Lucky is RED LISTED and needs to be adopted by Monday 22nd June 2009.
